ProjectBoobies.com is different than other companies selling breast cancer tee shirts because our sole focus is how can we help. In the late fall, we had the opportunity to help a small college in Iowa make a difference in their community and we would also love to help your college team and/or organization do the same so that we can beat breast cancer through self exams and raising money.

Our regular focus charity is Kokolulu Farms and Cancer Retreats that is located in Hawaii. In case you don’t know, Kokolulu is a miraculous non-profit that focuses on helping cancer survivors to win the mental battle with cancer and we sell our breast cancer shirts to help them raise funds. Additionally, the logo on our breast cancer tee shirts and tagline of “Grab A Feel so Cancer Can’t Steal” are reminders for people to do self checks for breast cancer because the best way to defeat this horrific disease.

This fall, we found an opportunity to team with the Iowa Central Cross Country Team in their 4th annual “Race to Erase Breast Cancer”. While it was not an actual race, their team sold breast cancer tee shirts, along with other donation avenues, to raise money for the Fort Dodge Trinity Regional Cancer Center. The results were outstanding and this small college team was able to make a big impact and raise nearly $2,000 for this medical center. Our part was to provide breast cancer shirts at a price that just covered our costs and the result was over 100 projectboobies.com shirts sold! The college had created their own awesome shirt design but found that our breast cancer tees outsold theirs by multiple times. We are very humbled by the outcome that college students loved our breast cancer clothes design which resulted in so much money being raised to fight breast cancer.

So how can we help your high school, college, or other organization raise money to help a regional cancer charity raise money with our breast cancer shirts? The first step is to check us out because we want you to be comfortable that we are really in breast cancer clothes to beat breast cancer. Feel free to contact Lew at Kokolulu Farms and Cancer Retreats as we have worked with their charity on multiple fronts as they work to help cancer survivors win the mental battle with cancer. Contact the cross country coach at Iowa Central in Ft. Dodge to verify we were great partners to work with for their breast cancer fundraiser. Check out our Twitter account that has over 3,000 followers. The other option is to use Google, Yahoo, Bing, and/or other search engines and do a search. If you search breast cancer tees, breast cancer clothes, or breast cancer shirts, you will find projectboobies.com on the first or second page of search results. We are passionate about beating breast cancer and it shows in everything we do! Please visit our website to learn more about breast self checks, breast cancer statistics, and to check out our breast cancer tee shirts.

Hopefully this communication helps you understand a little about our goals and how we’d like to work together to kick breast cancer’s ass! If you are a celebrity, we would love it if a brave one would be the first to help us. We can be reached on email at howcanwehelp@projectboobies.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.

In case you live on Mars, the TSA has started aggressive pat downs and/or sending people through scanners that show travelers completely without clothes. We are coming up on the one year anniversary of the shoe bomber being caught so I understand the need for security. Unfortunately, today has convinced me we have completely lost our common sense security measures! Our government has decided that it is ok to violate breast cancer survivors – enough is enough!

Cathy Bossi, a flight attendant of 32 years, was stopped while going through a new full-body scanner on her way to work at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Bossi was taken to a private screening room with two female Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents to be given an aggressive pat-down. One of the agents stopped when she came to Bossi’s prosthesis.

“She put her full hand on my breast and said, ‘What is this?’. And I said, ‘It’s my prosthesis because I’ve had breast cancer.’ And she said, ‘Well, you’ll need to show me that.’”

TSA chief John Pistole defiantly testified before congress this week that changes will not be made to these new security measures. Our government is supposed to represent us and we must let them know the new travel policies must be revised to include rational thought! We must let our government know that forcing a breast cancer survivor remove her breast prosthesis and fondling other passengers is not appropriate. Please let your thoughts be known on our blog comment section below so that we can let our feelings are not a secret! Please share this page link with everyone you know so that we can spread the word!

- Breast Cancer isn’t “Sexy” but catching it early & saving lives is! -

Everyone loves to get media coverage for their organizations and it is especially important for charities to get coverage to increase awareness and donations. Last week, we received the news ProjectBoobies.com breast cancer shirts made the New York Times – How great is that?

A quick click on the link showed ProjectBoobies.com was included in a group of large, well established, breast cancer clothing companies which made us feel good since we are just getting started in our efforts to make a difference. However, the story didn’t turn out to be positive and it was a bit disappointing that we didn’t receive a call from the writer or that she might not have reviewed our website since it appears some things have been taken out of context that we will address here.

First of all, we believe the topic of cause products, like breast cancer tees, is a great subject for news coverage/debate because many companies donate a very small percentage of profits to charity while touting their good deeds to fight their cause of choice. We don’t claim to be in the hearts of any company that donates a percentage of their work to charity because nobody is forced to do so. In the article, the author notes “Sassy retail campaigns have sprung up everywhere, purporting to “support the cause.”” In fact, this very topic was at the heart of how we decided to be different than other companies. While many organizations support breast cancer clothes by donating percentages of between 1-5 percent of total sales, Project Boobies will deliver up to 50 percent of total profits directly to cancer charities like Kokolulu Farms & Cancer Retreats – a cancer charity focused on the mental side of fighting cancer. I believe that Kokolulu would disagree that our efforts make “consumers feel good without actually doing anything meaningful” since Kokolulu helps cancer survivors win the mental battle with breast cancer.

Next, the author noted, “Project Boobies (the slogan on its T-shirts promoting self-exam reads, “I grab a feel so cancer can’t steal,” though the placement of its hot-pink handprints makes it virtually impossible for them to belong to the shirt’s wearer).” Unfortunately the author didn’t note that our slogan is meant to remind women to do their self checks nor note the hands are from our 14 year old daughter to make the point it is never too early to know your body – all clearly available on our website if anything was unclear. While we agree that it is impossible for the handprints to be shirt owners, it would also be impossible a design of the “self check” hand positioning to be the breast cancer shirt wearers so I don’t know the exact point that was attempted to be made here.

ProjectBoobies.com in College

Much of the NY Times article covers the “sexualization” of breast cancer clothes and other items such as the I Heart Boobies bracelets. As noted earlier, the author used “Sassy” to describe us and on our communication, we’ve used “provocative” to describe our breast cancer tees. However, the goal of our logo is to reach those that might not otherwise “hear” warning of breast cancer. Anyone, whether or not they see ProjectBoobie.com breast cancer shirts, can find out that a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes and someone dies every 13 minutes. However, that information probably isn’t going to resonate with a large portion of younger people who “know” they are invincible. They don’t need to be “told”, they need to have their attention grabbed and curiosity peaked so they visit our breast cancer information filled website, and “learn” on their own terms.

We have also found a very invigorated population of breast cancer survivors that like our shirts. Specifically, many breast cancer survivors in our lives and ones we’ve met through ProjectBoobies have “grabbed” being a breast cancer survivor with both hands, correctly positioned or not. They enthusiastically celebrate their victory over breast cancer and how they are even more attractive after their fight – breast reconstruction or not! These women are thankful for every moment they now have as mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, and any other role they have and strongly advocate for self checks and mammograms like we do. While some might reasonable disagree, we fully embrace our “sassy” perspective even if we risk offending some.

Finally, the author ends her NY Times article with the following thoughts: “I hate to be a buzz kill, but breast cancer is just not sexy. It’s not ennobling. It’s not a feminine rite of passage. And, though it pains me to say it, it’s also not very much fun. I get that the irreverence is meant to combat crisis fatigue, the complacency brought on by the annual onslaught of pink, yet it similarly risks turning people cynical.” We unequivocally agree! However, our goal is to remind women to do their self checks and regular mammograms. We believe that CATCHING breast cancer early is sexy – life is sexy and beating breast cancer is sexy! It’s a different perspective(glass half full vs half empty) and one that should be openly debated. Early detection is very important for beating all cancers and we hope to remind people with our shirts that help is in your hands – self detection.

While we don’t have the NY Times audience to respond to their article, we still think it is important to make our goals clear. In reality, we are thankful the author wrote a thoughtful article that covered points on both sides since many are just emotional rants without intelligence – thank you Peggy Orenstein as we appreciate the respectful coverage of the topic.

Project Boobies raises funds to fight breast cancer through the sales of its breast cancer apparel online at www.projectboobies.com. For more information or to order, go to the Web site or call (888) 957-4678.

During the Holidays Support Project Boobies and its Mission to Raise Money for Cancer Retreat Charity through Sales of Breast Cancer Shirts

- Every Gift You Give Offers up to 50 percent of profits to deliver a charitable donation -

During this holiday season, remember to give the type of gift that keeps giving by supporting Project Boobies (http://ProjectBoobies.com/), a new organization that dedicates up to 50% of profits directly to Kokolulu Farm & Cancer Retreats – a Free Cancer Retreat Charity.

The holidays are a time when charitable giving and donations typically are on the rise, but there’s always a need for more, according to Founder Rob Schmidt. Schmidt developed ProjectBoobies.com to develop awareness for early breast cancer detection and The Kokolulu Farm & Cancer Retreat non-profit through its efforts.

“Our initial breast cancer shirt sales have been very brisk and we’re looking for a great holiday season to be able to give to Kokolulu as best we can,” said Schmidt. “We’re changing the way companies donate to charity by donating up to 10 times more than many companies give when selling breast cancer items tied to a cause – our support is where our mouth is in this organization.”

In addition, Schmidt says, Model Cassandra Lynn has autographed several ProjectBoobies.com breast cancer shirts, all of which will be auctioned for charity, with 100 percent of the proceeds to be donated.

Lynn was Playboy Magazine’s “Playmate of the Month” for February 2006, and has been a cover model on several magazines as well as TV appearances on “The Apprentice” and “Last Comic Standing.”

Project Boobies has a new line of men’s and women’s breast cancer t-shirts now available online. Both the men’s and women’s apparel was inspired by Schmidt’s daughter and wife, to give hope and offer a sense of focus. The logo features a breast cancer ribbon tied around one of the index fingers as a “reminder” to do self breast exams and mammograms to detect breast cancer early.

Both men’s breast cancer shirts and women’s breast cancer shirts are priced at $19.95. The soft-style ring spun cotton shirts come in S, M, L, XL and XXL; they are available immediately. The tagline “I Grab a Feel So Cancer Can’t Steal” encourages women to routinely check their bodies and get regularly mammograms.

Project Boobies raises funds for breast cancer research through the sales of its breast cancer apparel online at www.projectboobies.com. For more information or to order, go to the Web site or call (888) 957-4678.

Breast Cancer Thriver

Ironically that was one of the emotions I felt when I was told that the lump I found in my left breast was indeed cancer. This couldn’t be happening. I was only 42 and recently started a new job and we had just signed the papers on purchasing a brand new town home. My life was going along as planned, then WHAM I felt like I was sucker punched.

Now, you would think it wouldn’t be so surprising since there’s a relatively strong history of breast cancer in my family, 4 women not including myself…2 cousins, my mother, my paternal aunt and my sister who endured poly cystic breast disease. But even when I found the lump, (accidentally while at work), I dismissed it to a possible injury-after all, breast cancer lumps don’t hurt….right?

After weeks of procrastinating and believing it really was nothing, I went to my doctor. He, unsuccessfully attempted to perform a needle core biopsy. After 2 unsuccessful attempts to extrapolate any type of fluid, he sent me to a breast surgeon. Once again there was another attempt of a needle core biopsy. This time the breast surgeon was able to obtain a small amount of fluid from the lump-enough to send off to pathology. Little did I know that two days later the path of my life would be forever changed.
I chose to have a bi-lateral mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery that would be done at a later time. The surgeon laid all of my options out on the table and in no way steered me to one over the other. In my mind, I knew that the mastectomy would be the more “favorable” route for me. Initially, my decision was to have the breast removed that had the lump. I phoned my surgeon to tell him of my decision and explained to him that I could only jump one hurdle at a time. With that he replied “this is your 1 hurdle, if you’re going to jump it, jump it big.” Needless to say after much contemplating and trying to wrap my mind around making what I felt was the right decision, I elected for the bi-lateral mastectomy. The next few weeks were a whirlwind of activity preparing for the surgery, meeting with doctors and overall a malady of tests. The tumor that was removed was 9cm and termed “triple negative” with no lymph node involvement.

After 6 weeks of recuperating from the surgery, I started 6 rounds of chemotherapy. Wow…I really had no clue how much fun I would have during that! A few small set backs (bronchitis and low blood counts) but I finally finished all 6 treatments 5 months later.

Now, my life has taken a different turn. It’s not that I want to forget about my experience, but rather learn from it, try to understand it and help others learn to navigate through their experience. I have always heard that some people look at things and life for that matter differently after a traumatic situation, but it took me almost 3 years to really figure mine out. Each one of my doctors played an important role in my being here today.

Cast of Characters:
The Breast Cancer Surgeon…Saved my life by removing the cancer
The Oncologist…Gave me an extended lease on life by “getting all of those little sucker cancer cells that may have lingered”
The Plastic Surgeon…Helped me in keeping my sanity so that I can feel like a whole person again with new breasts

And in a perfect world, cancer would be null and void so that no one would every have to experience being bald, nauseous or worse yet….scared.

- 100% of Breast Cancer Clothes Auction Proceeds Donated to Cancer Retreat Charity -

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010 – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are pleased to announce Model-Actress Cassandra Lynn has chosen to autograph ProjectBoobies.com breast cancer shirts which will be auctioned for charity on our website (http://ProjectBoobies.com/). 100% of the proceeds will be donated directly to Kokolulu Farm & Cancer Retreats – a Free Cancer Retreat Charity.

While many people will probably recognize the name, those that don’t will probably recognize her image since she has been a frequent cover model for magazines. Specifically, here is a quick summary of her accomplishments:

Hawaiian Tropic Model Top 19

Playboy’s Miss February 2006

Benchwarmer Model

- Sports Bike Magazine

- Makes and Models

- Guitar World

- Bikini Destinations

- Men7

- OPI

TV Credits

- Lingerie Football 2007 (LFL)

- Entertainment Tonight

- Playboy TV

- Custom Car Wrap

- The Last Comic Standing (One time appearance)

- The Apprentice (One time appearance)

According to Founder Rob Schmidt, ProjectBoobies.com aims to develop awareness for early breast cancer detection and The Kokolulu Farm & Cancer Retreat non-profit through its efforts.

“With Project Boobies, we’ve developed a new line of breast cancer shirts that are geared to spotlight the need for people to be aware of their bodies to catch breast cancer early and make a difference. We wanted a name and logo that jumped out at you and that made you realize this is a great way to get something accomplished.”

The recent controversy surrounding mammograms means it is more important than ever for people to be aware of body changes. While October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this horrible disease does not stop during other months. The sad statistics are a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes and a woman dies every 13 minutes. A little know statistic is approximately 2,000 US men will also be diagnosed with breast cancer with about 450 dying each year. The goal of ProjectBoobie.com breast cancer clothes is to make a difference any way we can.

“We are so thankful that Cassandra Lynn chose to help our cause and hopefully other celebrities will join in our fight to help Kokolulu Farm and Cancer Retreat help cancer survivors win the mental cancer battle.”

The starting bid for each of the 4 breast cancer shirts up for auction is $100 with the auctions closing October 25th at midnight. The auction features different sized shirts in case some people decide they would like to wear the autographed shirts or if they would like to display a breast cancer shirt in a frame.

The breast cancer shirt auction can be found on the projectboobies.com website. Cassandra Lynn and/or ProjectBoobies.com breast cancer clothes Founder Rob Schmidt are available for media interviews. For more information or to bid in the auction, go to the Web site or call (888) 957-4678.
